Junior Program
Curated for children 0-12 years old.
The mission of the Junior Program is to strengthen the whole child, focusing on inspiring character development, curiosity, and a love of learning. Classes are created to invite children to develop abilities, acquire skills, and gain knowledge through hands-on learning. This program is rich in music, art, poetry, stories, and nature.

Morning class offerings:
Core (for age groups 3-8)-
Well-Educated Heart core classes invite children to explore the world through Music, Art, Poetry, Story and Nature. We believe the core age is a time to nurture a child's heart. We do that by focusing on who they are not what they know.
Love of Learning (for ages 9-12)-
Love of Learning Phase is steeped in classics, projects, curiosity, and ideas. A wide range of personal interests lead to growth in competence, diligence, character, and accountability. Music, art, poetry, stories and nature continue to be an important part of this phase of learning.
Well Educated Heart Afternoon Clubs
First Semester - Handicrafts
A handicraft is a craft made by hand, but the crafting should be useful, practical, and beautiful. Encourage the children to pay attention to detail and to do their very best work
Green + Blue Combined:
Think: Paper flowers, stringing beads, decoupage trinket boxes, button art, card-making, watercolor painting, crayon resist art, clay sculpting, lacing (practicing the up and down motion of sewing), mosaic art (with squares of paper instead of actual glass tiles), basic puppet making (out of popsicle sticks), basic pointillism (q-tips and paint)
Love of Learning:
Think: Sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, felting, basket weaving, jewelry-making, card-making (greeting cards, pop up cards), scrap-booking, bookbinding (handmade journals or notebooks), decoupage, mosaic art, stencil and stamp art, Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter egg decorating), cooking, cake decorating, canning food/food preservation, soap making, loom weaving (weaving pot holders), pressing flowers, origami, clay sculptures, puppet-making, painting (acrylic or watercolor), pointillism, make bookmarks (out of any medium).
Second Semester:
Green + Blue Combined: Fairy Tale Fun
Each week, a fairy tale is read, then the children play a game, act out a scene, or do a craft based on the story. Story ideas: The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goat Gruffs, The Gingerbread Man, The Little Red Hen, Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, etc. Anything from the story can be used as a theme for games, acting out scenes, arts and crafts, snacks, songs, poems, etc. The sky is the limit. This is meant to be creative and fun. This can incorporate literature, music, art, and life skills into one themed class.
Love of Learning: Creative Writing/Drama
This will be a sort of drama club, to act out the stories that they create. They will be responsible for writing stories, turning them into short plays, and designing and creating the costumes and scenes. This would be similar to what their older siblings are doing with Shakespeare. It would incorporate creative writing, drama, and art.

Scholar Program
Carefully curated for youth 12-18 years old
The mission of the Scholar Program is to grow and develop the character and competence of each student. HMA uses LEMI Scholar Projects™ and other board-approved projects to inspire self-directed learning inside and outside of the classroom.
Mentors may give alternative assignments to meet student ability and skill level. Parents may also seek alternative assignments that are customized to the needs of their child. VMASK is recommended as a diagnostic tool to recognize the next right step.
Morning Scholar Class:
Shakespeare Conquest
“All the world’s a stage”—and in Shakespeare Conquest, students discover how true that is.
This is no ordinary English class! Shakespeare Conquest is an adventure into language, character, courage, and the great drama of human nature. Through the works of William Shakespeare, students enter worlds of kings and fools, heroes and villains, mistaken identities, noble friendships, dangerous ambition, loyal hearts, sharp wit, and hard-won wisdom.
But Shakespeare is only the beginning. His plays become the vehicle for discovering truth: Why do people choose what they choose? What makes a great leader? How does pride blind us? What does courage look like? What is the cost of jealousy, fear, loyalty, mercy, or love? As students study and perform these stories, they begin to see themselves and others with greater wisdom and compassion.
Along the way, students gain skills that reach far beyond the stage. They memorize powerful language, speak with confidence, work as a team, solve problems creatively, take risks, practice leadership, and learn to stand before others with poise. They discover that they can do hard things!
In Shakespeare Conquest, students don’t merely study a play—they step into it. They wrestle with ideas and find their own voices.
The result is more than a performance. Students don’t just conquer a Shakespeare play; they conquer fear, self-doubt, and the belief that their voice is too small for great things.

Afternoon Scholar Class
Global Adventures - History (divided into 2 classes, by age)
The focus of this class will be on the excitement of learning and discovery! Students will be following the path their own interests take them as we travel through the different ages of time, from ancient civilizations to the current era. Scholars will learn and share their discoveries as they dive deeply into their chosen topics and build an understanding of history and their place in it.
Class time will consist of simulations, debates, book colloquia, and presentations. Homework will vary by age group, but will mainly be reading, researching each time period through the lens of their individual path of interest, and preparing for debates and book discussions through writing assignments.
Parent Program
Carefully curated for... well... parents!
The mission of the Parent Program is to provide parents with the vision, support, mentoring, and relationships necessary for pursuing Leadership Education and Well-Educated Heart in their homes. We call this program "Growing Greatness".
Parents participate in a weekly parent class, bi-annual retreats, parent nights, yearly mentor training, and have the opportunity to mentor in the Scholar Program and/or the Junior Program.

Growing Greatness
Growing Greatness is a class for adult scholars (mothers) to learn and grow as mentors in heart and mind while feeling connection, belonging, and support. Ultimately, feeling equipped to keep moving forward in their unique mission. The class will utilize resources from the “The Well-Educated Heart” and “A Thomas Jefferson Education”. Class schedule and reading list will be available in September.

I have been a member of HMA for 2 years.
Before we were members of Heart and Mind Academy we had tried out no less than 4 other co-op type homeschool groups. While they all differed slightly in their approach, they were similar in that the focus was 100% on the kids and there was no feel of comradery or community among the families. While we joined because the kids would be participating in a variety of classes and activities, I liked that there was also a class for mothers. The uplift, education and training that I received in these one hour, once a week classes, helped me become a better mom and educator the rest of the week. I love being a part of it and I am very excited to see how it continues to grow as we the mothers and our students continue to improve and sow that love, learning and passion back into the school.

Heart and Mind Academy opened my eyes to a different way of homeschooling. Inspirint my children to have a love of learning after 10 years of homeschooling was such a counterintuitive way to think for my type A, schooling at home brain. Now my kids want to explore the world around them through art, music, history, and wonderful books. Having children with this excitement to chase their curiosities and the encouragement from our weekly Growing Greatness project where each mom has the opportunity to grow herself, I've gained such a new perspective on homeschooling that I won't do it any other way.

I have had such trouble fitting into our "mainstream" homeschool community in Cheyenne. I felt like I wasn't looking for the same things as many other homeschoolers, and I didn't want to schedule within an inch of my life. I want to enjoy my children while they are young, and enjoy what God has created me to be- a mother and a homemaker. When I found HMA, I felt immediately accepted as a part of the group and have not looked back! I'm not worried about fitting into the homeschool "social scene" anymore, and I don't have to worry about my children growing up without like-minded friends and adults in their lives. I'm grateful for HMA and the opportunity they provide to stop and see the beauty God has created for us.
